Can there truly be love after death?
Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she’s dead. I neither liked nor disliked it. Is that possible?
The tagline should’ve warned me that this is a love story, not a ghostly one. Amelia might be a ghost, but the ghostly appeal of the book ends there (ok, i just wrote ‘ghost’ 3 times!).
Basically, it’s a wandering spirit (Amelia) who felt a connection with a living human (Joshua) during his short death stint and so, while spending time on why is that possible, they fell in love. I wanted to enjoy their romance, i really do, but i couldn’t get past Amelia being a ghost. Why? Well, she and Joshua have several make out sessions that just seems too hard for me to imagine. Can YOU imagine a ghost kissing a guy? a warm, breathing guy???… c’mon on! The author is not convincing enough to pull me in on that fantasy.
I was really expecting a creepy storyline (i haven’t read ghost-related fiction in a while) but the romance part just buried that notion way down the mud.
I had a little sigh here and there because of Joshua (he’s such a sweetheart) but he’s just too weird for me. He’s dating a dead girl! tsk. tsk. The ghost part – the Eli part – not really frightening.
The author never did explained what Amelia’s powers are, or why or how they work against the malevolent spirits. and Amelia’s supposed exocism never came through. huh.
oh well, if you are looking for a romantic read, this can pass for a short thrill. but don’t expect to be scared because of the ghost theme. Look somewhere else, and you just might get rewarded.
