but oh, how I revel in my haul!!!

Have you read any of these books?

Splurged [30] / Stacking the Shelves [4]

Hello, Happy Saturday! Whew. So these past two months I am burdened with too much work. I hope it will change soon! It’s supposed to be summer vacation, right? But then I remembered, I’m no longer a student. Gah, sometimes I don’t like working at all. =)

Angus, thongs, and full-frontal snogging, Louise Rennison

Virtuosity, Jessica Martinez

(^read and reviewed last 2011, 4 stars!)

Witchlanders, Lena Coakley

The Prisoner of Cell 25, Richard Paul Evans

Rennison’s book is a Printz Honor awardee, so I am really itching to pick this up and read! Virtuosity is beautifully written, I only read an eARC so I was so ecstatic to have found a copy in very mint condition. 🙂 Witchlanders and The Prisoner of Cell 25 have been on my radar for so long now.

The greatest thing about these books? Price ranges from P50 ($1.2) to P145 ($3.5) only! 😀 I love book hunting, oh yes, I do.

Stacking the Shelves [3]

Hello! I haven’t blogged in two weeks. =( So sad. Work was overwhelming, sigh. I have six books pending for review, but who’s counting? (Me.) *grunts*

Anyway, after Book Depository ‘robbed’ me of $66 with the freakin’ “Spread the Love” promo, I’m broke. So I tried exploring my options in NetGalley and Edelweiss. Wouldn’t you know, I was granted galley access to some of my anticipated reads!

Arclight, Josin L. McQuein

Reboot, Amy Tintera

Thank you, Edelweiss and HarperCollins!

school spirits

School Spirits, Rachel Hawkins

Breathless, Brigid Kimmerer

[I just read Breathless, and it’s oh, so good.]

True, Erin McCarthy

Manicpixiedreamgirl, Tom Leveen

Thank you, NetGalley, Disney Book Group, Kensington, Erin Galloway of Penguin Group USA, and Tom Leveen!

You guys rock!

Splurged [29] / Stacking the Shelves [2]

I went to Booksale SM Mall of Asia branch last Thursday. I was only there for browsing, but my, the shelves are littered with YA! Wildefire, Fury, Someone Like You, Just Listen, The Amulet of Samarkand, Shine. And those are the just the ones I remembered. Well, it’s a good thing I only had Php 500 ($10+) in my pocket, because I managed to choose carefully which books to buy. I came out with two. =)

The Demon’s Covenant, Sarah Bree Brennan

Before I Go to Sleep, S.J. Watson

Since I found the second book in The Demon’s Lexicon series, my copies are now complete. Woot! So I bought them all (separately) from bargain stores. Pretty neat, huh? Total price for all 3 books is Php560 ($13). Hohoho!

This is How You Lose Her, Junot Diaz

Gilead, Marilynne Robinson

Angus lent me his copy of the Junot Diaz book, because I was intrigued by the title. And Monique gifted Gilead last Valentines. *winks* Thank you, dear friends! *high five*

[Back story: I stopped joining the IMM meme last year, and I’ve been winging my book splurge blog posts since then. I keep seeing STS from my GR friend Jona‘s blog. Finally, I took courage again to join another meme today, and STS seemed fitting. Hope I can keep it up!]

I’m not sure if I included all my February purchases here, but I hope I did. I’ve been focused on shaving my actual TBR pile, that I’m neglecting Ilium II the Kindle for two weeks now, I think. 😦 So I need to curb my book hoarding for a while. Ugh. Who am I kidding? I just bought two books yesterday from The Book Depository!

Once A Witch by Carolyn MacCollough

Robopocalypse  by Daniel H. Wilson

The Alchemyst by Michael Scott

(all read and reviewed)

Boundless by Cynthia Hand

Eon by Allison Goodman – copy for Kwesi

Saving June by Hannah Harrington – copy for Janus

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi – extra copy

Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter (read and for review)

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (read and reviewed)

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (currently reading)

Have you read Robopocalypse and Once A Witch?

Can you recommend them?

Splurged: Les Miserables.. Take Two! (with Sweet Valley on the sides)

image from irina_we heart it

Wow. I had a fantastic day! How about you? It’s only Thursday but I managed to feel accomplished at work before I go home. 🙂 Yes, I started a bit lazy (judging from my morning tweets), but my day wrapped up pretty well! Even if going home, I was stuck at the metro train for 45 minutes (because the train before us was having technical problems), I was fine. I just whipped up Temple the iPad and continue reading This Lullaby. And I even finished it before reaching our house. *fist pump*

But enough of that. January has passed and my book hoarding hasn’t stopped. Better I share it already, huh? 😉

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

Luxe by Anna Godbersen

I ordered Rossi’s second book through Book Depository, but I bought a copy when I saw one at the local bookstore. Hee. Bray’s and Godbersen’s – I bought for $1 only. woot!

Tall Story by Candy Gourlay
Sinner by Sharon Carter Rogers
Rafa: My Story by Rafael Nadal
Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

My dear friend Veronica gave Tall Story to me (technically, it was not for me, but it’s free book! who am I to refuse?). Sinner I bought together with the Libba Bray book. I found Rafa on the bargain bucket of Book Depository! Naturally, I have to buy it. 😀 He’s my all-time favorite tennis player, duh.

Now, I bought another copy of Les Mis, and this time it’s the unabridged copy. I cannot resist! After wetting my eyes when I watched the movie, I have to buy it. Period.

Channel X and Killer Party by Francine Pascal

Whenever I saw a Sweet Valley book on bargain, I always buy it. Heck, it was so expensive for me back when I was in high school. Now, it barely cost a dollar (P39)! Yeah, I collect them. I get nostalgic when I see SV covers. It brings back memories of the time when YA was unknown here in Manila, and all I could get hands on are a handful of the Wakefield twins. 😀 Good times!

So which books have you read? Can you recommend them?

Splurged: Bargain books, from YA to Saramago

I was taking pictures of these books when my son asked that i take one as well with him on it. Of course I obliged. 😉 It’s been awhile since I bought books, and what a therapy it was! I so swamped with work last month. Such a luxury to browse the shelves and find something worth buying.

Love You More by Lisa Gardner

All The Names by Jose Saramago

I bought these two from Books for Less, Festival Mall Alabang. They are in mint condition! Oh, I don’t read Saramgo, this one’s for a friend who has it on his wishlist (hoping his Secret Santa won’t give him the same book, haha!). And I’m a Lisa Gardner completist. I haven’t read from her in years, i think.

Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

Unraveling Isobel by Eileen Cook

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer

This batch I got from Booksale! You see, it’s really hard to find YA books in Booksale. So when I get lucky, I almost always buy them. I already read Darkness Becomes Her but I loved it. But I don’t even want to read Pfeffer’s sequel (after my disappointment with Life As We Knew It), but this is a hardbound copy in good condition. and it’s only P60 ($1.5)!

So which books have you read? Can you recommend them?

Splurged : Sapphique By Catherine Fisher, Passage by Justin Cronin

It’s my birthday week and I’m all set for reading at my (quiet) leisure!!!

(so don’t try to find me, alright? ;))

A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford
The Unidentified by Rae Mariz
Sapphique by Catherine Fisher
Firelight by Sophie Jordan
Hex HallDemonglass by Rachel Hawkins

National Bookstore’s Bargain Sale is robbing me every Monday. *sigh* But I’m so psyched to snag a copy of Sapphique!

The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

Been saving this for my birthday reading 😉 I believe Riordan will not disappoint. *fingers crossed*

The Passage by Justin Cronin

I’ve been spying on this book for years! I wanted to buy for so long, but something always holds me back. Good thing, eh? Got a hardbound copy for only P99 ($2.4)!

Which books have you read? Can you recommend them?

Splurged (and Borrowed) : Rebel Heart by Moira Young

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken
A Little Wanting Song by Cath Crowley
The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride
The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge
Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer

I just can’t get enough of National Bookstore’s Bargain Sale! So if you don’t see any YA book on their shelves, it’s because i already bought them. Ha!

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler
Gone by Michael Grant

 Rebel Heart by Moira Young
The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

I would like to thank my dear friends Ace, Tricia, Tina, Angus and Janus for graciously lending me their books!

(And yes, i will return them. So don’t fret. Haha!)

Which books have you read? Can you recommend them?

Splurged: I Hunt Killers, The Near Witch, KikoMachine Komix among others

I got another haul from Amazon! I just love buying books there. 🙂

I recently finished I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga and if you are a fan of stories revolving around serial killers, then by golly, grab a copy of this awesome book! YA + Serial Killers + Dark Humor = I. Am. In. Love. Woot!

Front and Center is the final book from the Dairy Queen series. It was hard to find this edition that will match my DQ collection. Imagine my delight when i saw a HB bargain copy in Amazon! I just started The Off Season (book 2), so i am hoping to wrap up this cute contemporary series real soon. Happiness!

There’s a lot of raves for Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Is it right of me to jump with the bandwagon? I’ll be reading this next week.

Last Friday, I passed by the local bookstore on my way home. There’s a little crowd already forming in front of the store. What could it be? Lo, and Behold. The bookstore’s having a bargain sale! My eyes went wide as I saw one YA title after another worth P70 Philippine Pesos (around US$1.99 each). Without a moment’s hesitation, I grab anything I could get my hands to. They are all hardbound copies, so picture me hauling these books from the metro to my house. Did I mention that it was raining that day, and I live 2 hours away from the metro? Oh, the sacrifice! 🙂

I also got the KikoMachine Komix #1-8, a Filipino published comic strips collection. Hey, Manix Abrera! You make me wanna reminisce the good ol’ days of my college years. =) Thank you for signing all my copies. Rakenrol (rock ‘n roll)!

Which books have you read? Can you recommend them?

So, as usual, i’m broke. But i don’t think i’m alone… have you bought some books lately? 😉 Haha!
