Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena’s family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan’s eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there’s no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town’s tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
I didn’t want to choose one world. I wanted to be part of both. I didn’t want to see only one side of the sky. I wanted to see it all.
What a way to follow up the first book! It was amazing – their adventure to the underground passageways is mind blowing.
Ethan – is starting to get whiny and clingy. i want to knock him out cold.
Lena – oh my, the b*tch is coming out! i kinda liked here in book one, but here. ugh. i want to bury her underground. *make me the heroine instead!*
Link – should’ve made him the lead 😦 he is so funny, i love him! the way he treats Ridley despite his feelings for her – fantastic. i liked that the authors decided to have Link as Ethan’s companion in this book. if it was Lena, crap, i’ll chuck the book faster than you think.
Ridley – she is a very interesting character! complicated and yet easy to understand at the same time. makes sense? i am so looking forward to seeing here in book three!
Liv – hmm. i like her on the average. could this be a Team Liv vs Team Lena match? She definitely have more spunk than Lena, so i hope she stays longer with the love triangle.
ending – explosive! that’s the way to wrap up a paranormal book 🙂 but i have to say, i don’t want Lena’s family to be mine. nu-uh. too crazy.
the verdict: i am more hyped to read book three for the adventures than following Ethan’s and Lena’s love story. Link-Ridley? Now there’s something brewing hot!
We don’t get to chose what is true. We only get to choose what we do about it.
“giving up is the ultimate tragedy.”
